The interdisciplinary and collaborative research in ideology, propaganda, and political discourse in contemporary China focuses on the period of Xi Jinping’s chairmanship since 2012. Besides learning about China’s domestic context, the research is also relevant for examination of China’s foreign policy and its links to domestic political order. The research addresses the rising contemporary relevance of the examined phenomena in accordance both with up to date research trends and with established approaches in Czech Oriental studies of non-European histories, cultures, languages, and societies. Apart from dealing with specifically Chinese context, it also seeks to generate a broader theoretical and methodological contribution to research in ideology, propaganda, and political discourse in non-democratic regimes from the perspective of history, political science, media studies and communication, and linguistics.
