Pavel Baran, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and Emil Višňovský, former Vice-President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Professor of philosophy at the SAS, will present their papers in the event. Marek Hrubec will give an introductory paper and will chair the video-conference. The discussion will be opened afterwards. The video-conference is organized by the Centre of Global Studies IP CAS.

In Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on February 19, 2020, Marek Hrubec, Director of the Centre of Global Studies at the Institute of Philosophy of Czech Academy of Sciences, delivered a public lecture titled: “Development Resolution: Overcoming Global Conflicts and their Local Interactions”, which was organised by NGOs: Ubuntu Centre for African Peace Building in cooperation with West African Network for Peace Building (WANEP) and Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD). The lecture was chaired by a former Minister of External Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, the Special Adviser on the International compact with Iraq and other issues for the Secretary-General of the United Nations. On that occasion, the Ambassador proposed re-structuring policing by supporting federal police by specific activities of local and state police in the individual Nigerian states in order to face growing insecurity across the country, including transnational terrorist activities made by Boko Haram etc. Please see more 
Centre of Global Studies, Institute of Philosophy at the Czech Academy of Sciences invites you to the workshop “Violence, Conflicts and History”.
The Jewish history and culture of the Bohemian countries have been enjoying growing interest for around two decades. Surprisingly, no innovative synthesis of this research has yet been available. This book, written by an international team of authors, is taking on the challenge of telling and analyzing the Jewish experience in the Bohemian countries as an integral and inseparable part of the development of Central Europe from the 16th century to the present day. It is just as much about contacts of the Jewish population with their non-Jewish neighbors as it is about the view of the province, i.e. the rural regions and communities away from the major urban centers of Prague, Brno and Ostrava. The German version of the collective monograph on the history of the Jews in the Czech lands from the early modern period examines selected Jewish communities and their demographic development over the last four centuries.
Department of Political Sociology at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences opens a call for participation in an international workshop Post-Communist Party Systems: Revisiting Linkages between Citizens and Politicians in Contemporary Europe. Graham Parkes (Institute of Philosophy, the University of Vienna, Austria), Marek Hrubec and Jiří Krejčík (both from the Czech Academy of Sciences) will give papers on the theme of the global climate crisis and its possible solutions in various world macro-regions, from perspectives of philosophy and the social sciences. A discussion will take place afterwards.
Lectures and discussions focused on civilizational analyses and a concept of structural democracy. They dealt with updates of the historical themes and their limits, particularly in the fields of social and political justice and civilizational changes in a global framework. The main speakers were Oleg Suša, Jiří Loudín, Ladislav Hohoš, Peter Dinuš, and Miloslav Pauza. Workshops were a part of the 19th edition of the annual Czech and Slovak conference “Filosofie a sociální vědy”.
In the workshop with the presentation of a book “Critical Theory and Social Media” written by Thomas Allmer , the author of the book Thomas Allmer and Irena Reifová will present their papers. The contributions will be followed by a discussion.
